CLIENT’S CHALLENGE
Our European client knows that the future for success of its foodtech, novel ingredients and sustainable food products will rely on developing export markets and increasing overseas R&D collaboration in these new technologies.
However, their industries are more familiar with closer markets in Europe and needed support to better understand opportunities in further markets – like Japan.
OUR SOLUTION
We focused on eight major areas of foodtech innovation that have been attracting attention in the past few years and which are of interest to both European and Japanese industries.
- Plant-based meat
- Plant-based dairy
- Cultivated meat
- Edible insects
- Microalgae
- Precision fermentation
- Genome editing
- Sustainably-sourced palm oil
Meros conducted thorough desktop research in Japanese and English on the current trends in the target areas as well as organizing in-depth discussions with industry experts in our network who are involved in these areas.
We created detailed lists of Japanese players in each area of focus to support the client’s search for suitable partners for R&D and collaboration.
IMPACT
Armed with Meros background, the client team was able to lead an advance mission of government and industry representatives for initial talks with Japanese players, as well as hold seminar and webinars on the topic for the Japanese industry. The client is preparing to bring two much larger missions to Japan within the next year.
